300 kL/day Sewage Treatment for Lake Crackenback

Protex Water partnered with City Water Technology to design, manufacture, install and commission a new 300 kL/day Sewage Treatment Plant for the picturesque Lake Crackenback Resort in New South Wales.

This new Elementz STP was specifically developed to operate harmoniously with the alpine resorts environmentally sensitive surroundings and to manage strong seasonal demand. The plant was designed to provide a reliable, modern treatment solution while improving overall performance, compliance and long-term operational efficiency.

The upgraded system utilises a dual-train Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) process, with each train rated at 150 kL/day, providing robust treatment performance and operational redundancy. The treatment train includes duty/standby inlet screening, equalisation tanks, anoxic and aerobic biological treatment zones, submerged membrane filtration, permeate pumping, UV disinfection, and large-volume treated effluent storage for reuse.

Designed for a challenging alpine environment, the project also considered cold climate operation, seasonal peak loading, snow conditions, and remote site logistics.

High-quality equipment and instrumentation from suppliers including Grundfos, Kubíček, Mitsubishi, Endress+Hauser and Schneider Electric were selected to deliver dependable long-term performance and ease of operation.

Delivered as a fully integrated packaged solution, this STP upgrade provides high-performance treatment capability, producing high-quality recycled water for onsite reuse, while supporting the resort’s long-term growth and environmental compliance objectives.
