Protex Water is pleased to have delivered a new Class-A Sewage Treatment Plant at BMA’s Peak Downs Mine, located near Moranbah in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.
The project consolidated five decentralised sewage treatment plants across the mine site into one centralised 100 kL/day treatment facility, providing a more robust treatment solution while allowing capacity for future mine expansion. The new plant incorporates Submerged Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology, delivering high-quality Class A treated effluent within a compact process footprint.
A key feature of the installation is the 316 stainless steel bioreactor, designed for a 75-year service life, providing a durable solution suited to the demanding conditions of a remote mining environment. Reliability was also central to the design, with all critical equipment provided in duty/standby configuration to maintain treatment capability and minimise operational risk.
This project is a great example of how centralising wastewater infrastructure can improve reliability, simplify operations and provide a long-term platform for site growth.
