Covering 70,000 sqm, the Central Victoria Livestock Exchange (CVLX) just outside Ballarat, transfers about 1,400 head of livestock every week. To help manage the vast amount of animal excrement generated, AKS was contracted to design and build a large sequencing batch reactor which was installed after intermittent aerated facultative lagoons.
The plant also featured a selector tank for increased de-nitrification. Settled effluent is then filtered with a glass media filter and dosed with liquid chlorine before being discharged to an end-of-train irrigation dam.
The Central Victoria Livestock Exchange, is the State’s largest multi species livestock sales facility, generating over $210 million in sales annually. The management of livestock sewage is highly important for the safe operation of the site,
