The Township of Clare is located 80km south-east of Townsville in Queensland, we were asked to replace the aging Treatment Plant, taking water from the nearby Burdekin River and treating it to meet potable water standards.
As part of the Clare WTP Renewal project, Sunwater engaged Protex Water to supply, install and commission a new Drinking Water Treatment Plant to replace the old asset, incorporating new technologies and with an increased design flowrate of 400kLD.
The plant takes water from the Burdekin River with the treatment train comprising of clarification through Lamella Clarifiers, before going through AFM and GAC Filters. Post filtration, the water is treated with Ultraviolet Disinfection and Chlorine Dosing prior to being stored for distribution.
A unique feature of this plant is an innovative Electro Chlorination System which produces low strength Sodium Hypochlorite for the site. This removes the need for bulk storage of liquid Sodium Hypochlorite, and provides the operators with a constant supply of chemical.
There are monitoring points throughout the plant to ensure the safety of the system and to maintain water quality. The plant also has a fully integrated SCADA System to make monitoring a breeze for the operations team.
