We partnered with Aqua Metro to provide Barwon Water with new recycled water plant in Portarlington on the Bellarine Peninsula in coastal Victoria. We specifically designed the plant to treat Class-C lagoon water to Class-B, with a significant reduction in salinity.
Featuring Ultra-Filtration and Reverse Osmosis at its core, this multi-stage treatment train utilises Course Screening and DAF prior to an automatic 200 um Filter, ensuring debris and large particle removal before the water enters the UF and RO stages.
The system also incorporates an UF/RO CIP system to avoid fouling and to help extend membrane life. The final stages of the treatment train include a Brine Blending System, Class-B Blending System with Chlorine maintenance.
The plant is equipped with high-quality components throughout, including Grundfos and Ebara pumps, along with Hach and Siemens instrumentation, providing reliability and ease of maintenance for this critical water infrastructure.
The treated water is offered to agricultural and horticultural water uses on the Bellarine Peninsula for irrigation and specific reuse purposes, including for wineries, cellar doors, and farm gate tourism.
The introduction of this new system will significantly reduce the reliance on the precious drinking water supply for these agricultural and horticultural uses, freeing the supply for household use.
Protex Water's role included the full design, manufacture, installation, and commissioning of this impressive 4 ML/day water recycling treatment plant, significantly helping to future proof water supply on the Bellarine Peninsula.
